I have been working hard on a new custom map , in 3dsmax 6, and have been gathering ideas and suggestions from our fellow admins...I have entered this map, in VET's name, into the Pterodon Custom Maps contest...There is some stiff competition and once we are satisfied with the final result of the map, I will make it availiable to fellow VET members first by passing them the link for the new map...VET is proceeding forward now with more maps for the community to enjoy...

"We had quite a few maps considering the relatively small size of the mapping community in Vietcong, and we were initially surprised at the number of people wanting to participate. In total we received around 15 people showing interest to create maps and by the end of the competition we had received 9 maps. The quality varied, and even though some didn't look as nice as others, those which were not so graphically pleasing usually had very good game play.
It took many votes from various sources, and ultimately came down to internal voting from all members within the current PMT team. We decided to change the structure of the competition, and although we originally said only 2 winners, we have included one winner and 2 runner-ups. All of which will receive prizes."
We decided on the following maps as winning entrys and will join Nui Lei and Citadel in the forthcoming PMT mod, however we regret to say the rest will not be part of the PMT mod:
Winner:
Parameter - Made by Nix
Nix will win an official PTERODON t-shirt, a copy of Vietcong: Purple Haze for the PS2, a PMT branded mouse mat or mug and an offer to join the PTERODON Modding Team!
Runner-Ups:
LangLy Ruins - Made by Kjeldorius Hue City - Made by Kermit
Both Kermit and Kjeldorius will get the choice between either a PMT branded mouse mat or printed mug.
Sadly however, the following were not successful in winning a prize, but we have a massive amount of respect for those who took part and for those who provided us with constant reminders keeping us motivated throughout the contest. Those who were not successful include:
Laos ‘67 - Erikyboy VET Attleboro - Chavez AssaulT - Made by Seek Dien Bien Phu - Made by Float Djose Canyon - Made by Kyber Deep Pitch - Made by Nix
As a kind gesture, we will be releasing all these maps once we have contacted all their authors. We hope this will ensure that these maps get more play time than they would usually get.
We will have a further announcement with any additional details and links to the maps produced by those who did not win.
-Well damn i guess we better keep trying,...time to pick up the pace and quality,...you only get better and better after trying over and over again.....Chavez

Red Terror Posted: Wed Jun 22, 2005 1:00 am --------- either.
We decided to change the structure, making a small points-based system where coop would help increase the scores of maps. Then, we could incorporate 3 great maps and it just made more sense.
---" I mean, for COOP, I think Chavez's map had some very good potential which I would have personally put above a lot of others. "---
All map entrants would have over 1 month after the contest to try add COOP into the maps - so at the moment this only applies to Hue-city which i'm sure deep down you will love...
ChavezAmazing that we took the extra time to make a playable map with good FPS and ambience,...and just because the texturing wasnt to their standards, we got the brush into lowest bracket,...but Red Terror agrees the best game play was ours, go figure...i spent months on the terrain, tunnels, clip distances, object placements, ambients, ...had the help of some of the admins with scripts, waypoints, rain, thumbs, VC characterisitcs....I should have mad a map with nothing but kick ass graphics, and blended textures, and waited for them to say "Hey what a great looking map..."
Read the following from the contest rules and judging basis:
PMT-Jimmy Posted: Thu Apr 07, 2005 2:47 am
" You can send a playable BETA version of your map, so that means just adding CTF and ATG will be enough, the focus will be laid upon there. Dont waste your time on adding weapons for DM, TDM as of yet.
Your map doesnt requires COOP, that is a different judging part. That will we done by the UST2S and Meatgrinder communities, together with us.
although its always nice to have some good COOPs,, and the chances are there you will receive credits for having it implemented.
we will check out the map, and make some notes. When we received all maps, we will compare them piece by piece, and go further in detail.
Note that gameplay is the most important thing, but graphics is not to be forgotten.
beeing original is hard these days, but is still a vital part of creating a good map....."
And this one:
PMT- Jimmy Posted: Tue Feb 08, 2005 7:19 pm Basic Guidelines
"You can model any kind of level design you wish, but we prefer Vietnam based levels, think you will all understand that.
There are 3 ways of judging the map. One will be the COOP element if its available in a map, and the other is the CTF/ATG multiplayer Structure.
The third is mostly graphics, together with other aspects such as the Frame rate.
You are not obliged to add CTF/ATG and COOP on your map. As long there is either CTF/ATG, or COOP.
The judging part of the maps will be done by PTERODON Modding Team members. For the COOP judging, we would like some honoured members of the Meatgrinder and UST2S to assist us in doing it. They are known to be the COOP specialists, so hopefully they can assist us in doing this.
This is some basic information about the Custom Map contest."

Posted: Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:11 pm Winners Announced Additionally, we would like to thank the following considerably:
Erikyboy: His map was one of my favourites and he had provided constant support for the contest. It's a shame he failed to get enough votes for the top three.
Chavez: Created an awesome map and also provided constant support during the contest. His map certainly met the COOP requirments, sadly it missed out on being a winner, but we will certainly be bigging it up in the future.
And of course, everyone who took part!
Well damn if i could only go back in time with what i know now...Maybe next time with a better map i guess
