Answer to Question #1-#2: Global illumination = Light tracing
Select Rendering -> Advanced Lighting -> Light tracer to open the Advanced Lighting panel in the Render scene dialog box
The Global Multiplier Value increases the overall effect of the light tracer, much like increasing the multiplier of a light. The net result is brightening of the scene. The Objects Multiplier sets the amount of light energy that bounces off the objects. The Color Bleed is how the objects color bleeds to adjacent objects. You can greatly exaggerate the amount of color bleeding by increasing the Object Multiplier along with the Color Bleed value. You can also select colors to use for a color filter and for extra ambient light. (Note: The color bleeding effect doesnt happen unless the bounce value is set to 2 or higher)
What was typed above is for 3dsmax users....
if this is for Ptero Editor II read below:
(Always back-up your .sco before making drastic changes to your scene!!!)
--Hit the Home key -> select !World Sector! Then click View -> Editor Panel -> Properties ...and adjust the lighting for your scene there, make sure you write down the origional settings before messing with these...That should handle the locally ...and for globally...Hit the Home key again, Select Backgound, Click View -> Editor Panel -> Properties then adjust your brightness there as well, and as before, write down the current settings before changing these numbers/colors...
Not sure on question 3
Answer to question #4 Are there any objects/effects that I should avoid placing because they cause an crash or conflict?
--I havent found anything that causes conflicts as long as you have the object .BES in the objects folder (located in your levels folder in Vietcong), and the corresponding texture(s) in your tex folder (located in Levels folder in Vietcong),....and if the object is in the editor already, then the textures for that object are there,...(Note: some objects dont have collisions, and some dont have textures), so be aware and try out anything new you havent tried before by hitting F8 then F9 and going into your map and exploring that object...
Answer to Question #5. how do I connect waypoints?
--First hit Control-W which will show any existing waypoints and their connections. Waypoints are connected by hitting the "p" button on your keyboard. Select the initial Waypoint, then select the one you want to connect it to....each waypoint can only connect 6 different ways...(DO NOT EXCEED 2500 WAYPOINTS... THAT WILL CAUSE YOUR EDITOR TO CRASH, YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING UP TO YOUR LAST SAVE)
Answer to Question 6. How can I tell the vc to lean, in a direction, on a waypoint, or define the stance ( Standing, crouched, prone) :
--Read what Nix says above with Hideouts, No shortcuts, and Normal waypoints. Also depends on your VC Basic file [which can be found in LEVELS -> Map Name -> data -> scripts...."The SDK is your friend," as Don Tutuma says....download that and study it well for any cahnges you want to make to your game structure/behaviors for the different game modes)....VCBattlemode, VCBattlemodeAGR, VCPeacemode,...look into those for descriptions...
Answer to question 7: For Ambient noises/sounds
--Click Entities -> Create -> Event Then click View -> Editor panel -> Properties -> sounds (then choose what sounds you like to hear) then go into the game (F8 then F9) and see what they sound like...
--You can also do this same way for fauna Click -> entities -> Create-> Fauna...Then click View -> Editor Panel -> Properties -> Add -> (Whatever Fauna) then select Radius and change the parameters Radius and Amount of fauna to your liking...
Answer to Question #8 Can I get VC to fire semi auto?
--They will automatically do whatever they want to, as long as the difficulty mode is set appropriately (Vietnam, Hard, Normal, Easy...) Also with what weapons are assigned to them...
Answer to Question#9 How Can I make a lightbulb appear to be on?
--Click Entities -> Create -> Light -> (Omni or spot) -> adjust color of light in properties window, and the radius there as well...
Question #10 --Dont know i havent made TDM, DM, ATG maps yet...
Dont forget to read about assigning Dummies, and setting Clip distances....and you may have to adjust Visibility so that the FPS for the game isnt poor...
ALWAYS REMEMBER TO SAVE EVERY 10 MINUTES, AND ONLY.. ONLY.. ONLY.. AFTER YOU F8-F9 TO MAKE SURE EVRYTHING IS OK BEFORE YOU SAVE...TRUST ME ON THIS....AND DONT FORGET TO BACK UP YOUR .SCO BEFORE YOU EDIT YOUR MAP,....YOU MAY NOT LIKE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND YOU CAN GO BACK TO HOW IT WAS BEFORE YOU DID SOME THINGS....)
