I never did write in here?
Hi all Obie here. I have been playing VC since it was released in Australia. Finished the single player standard Vietcong game on all the difficulty levels and decided I still could not get enough.
Started playing version 1.1 multiplayer.
My options of choice then were
ctf - Stream
ctf - Storm
ctf - NVA Base
COOP -Stream
COOP - Storm
Coop - NVA Base.
A vary broad selection you must admit.
I would spend a lot of time in WAY high ping servers as there only ever seemed to be a couple of version 1.1 servers around. I put it down to no one liked/played the game anymore, and started to feel lonely
I could see all of these other servers in the list, but they were all incompatible servers.
In the end, I gave up (mid 2005) and stopped playing VC for a while.
I started getting into Far Cry. Cool graphics, cool storyline, terrible AI
One day tried to play multiplayer. I had to update my game version and download a whole heap of maps to be able to join in.
Once I did this and played for a bit (3-4hours total) I realised how much it sucked compared to Vietcong. SIGH.
Then it hit me like a ton of bricks (Early 2007).
(This is the part of my story where you will say to yourself "OMG, jerk")
What if those other servers I couldn't get into because I need to upgrade my game. So I hunted around the Internet and YES, Upgrade path. Ver 1.31, 1.4, 1.6. WOW.
After upgrading I found I could now see all of the servers that I was not able to get into previously.
Next problem was maps. Where on earth do I get these maps from. Spend two weeks messing around trying to get into servers by downloading maps blah blah.
Then one day I saw server VET #3 VET_Ambush 3/12 players. went to vietcong-coop, downloaded the map and went in.
I was greeted by (bad memory) TRAVX, SAS OZ, and Chavez.
These guys seemed serious about their playing. Not crazy seriors, but serious enough that they wanted to work as a team, and finish the map. I said to myself, how good is this shit!
Not three minutes later I found myself the only team member still alive
we soon all respawned and Chavez started informing me about V.E.T. Who they are, what they do, where there website is etc.
This sounded awesome (and still is) I immediately jumped on the site, registered, registered in the forums, downloaded Ventrillo (which is sweet as), found myself a copy of Fist, and started joining in.
After a couple of weeks TRAVX and Chavez started showing me all about the maps they (and others) make and/or were making.
I started to join in and got help when ever I got stuck. From there I am still to release my first custom map, but it is close.
Time constraints with working and studying mean its hard ATM to work on what I consider a major project in creating a new custom map.
Along with Tomcat, who was also a noob at the time, we started nutting things out together and are now getting into scripting as we have a relatively firm grasp on Max and the Editor.
And that is pretty much it, from my humble beginnings to where I am now has been fun, and I still kick myself for not looking into why I could not access those servers.
If you managed to get through all of that, thank you for your time,. And good job.
To Quote one of our Commanding Officer: "SEE YA IN DA JUNGLE"
