You can find our Basic Editing pack at www.vietcong-coop.net (thx Don T.) it is in downloads-->Editing-->Go-->BasicEditingPackRev.rar (updated Dec 28, 2007)
1. Make the Levels folder
2. Make the terrain in 3dsmax, export the .BES in proper terrain_(mapname).BES format to Levels-->(Mapname) folder (or duplicate scene from a list of maps in the PteroEditor-this automatically creates a levels/mapname folder for you)
3. If you made your terrain in 3dsmax, Copy textures, (from your personal textures folders), that you used for the terrain into Levels-->(mapname)-->tex folder
4. Copy/Paste skytop textures into the Levels-->(mapname)-->tex folder
5. Make sure you have a terrain_mapname.bes and sky_top.bes before this next step. Open Editor, use the new scene wizard, name sublevel name exactly as the folder you created in the levels folder...
***New step added 7-20-08***
6. Select your terrrain, press F on your keyboard, the freeze dialog box appears, now press enter. Your terrain should freeze into its origional position now (this prevents you from accidentally moving it, selecting it, or deleting it while you are editing your map)...you can check if it is properly frozen by pressing Shift+F on your keyboard...
7. Place Trees/Palms first, Rocks 2nd, Logs 3rd....
8. Place waypoints (up to 2,430 total waypoints) around all of these trees/rocks/logs and connect them, using the method i use (see next paragraph)...
---If you are using a duplicated map from Pterodons Editor...hit Control-W and see if the map already has waypoints in it...if it is a custom or intercepted terrain, you will have to manually place every waypoint, and connect them...
---The easy way to do it is hit the " O " not zero, key and use the placeator tool,...select normal waypoint, and move the red cursor to your desired location and left click,...now do this again and then hit the " P " button (to connect the two waypoints)...so now you hit O then place, then P then connect, O then place, then P and connect...finally in the end you place your VC in the map,...now select a waypoint closest to your VC AI player, open your View-->Editor panel-->On-->properties panel,..and change it to a hideout...dont have too many hideouts as it lowers the overall FPS for some reason...also the least amount of hideouts the more the vc move. Basically if you want VC attacking a compound, place all of the hideouts in the compound,...the VC will try to get to these hideouts once the game begins (hopefully you understand how this works now)...anytime there is an open area without cover for the vc you can use the "no shortcuts" property for the waypoint...
9. Places Bushes drop/rotate/scale, (make sure not to place too many large bushes, because the VC can see the human player through them, and the human player cannot see the AI through the bushes)...then place the grass drop/rotate/scale (easier to place waypoints before this step)
10. Make handmap for terrain following the Help file examples in the Editor
11. Hit home key, select World Sector..Edit Fog settings, Light settings, Scene distance ( We usually set around 60-110)...
12. Close that Editor panel, hit Home select Background,...edit the background visibility and color...
13. Hit home key,..select all the trees of the same name, open Editor panel-->properties-->clip distance (set this 10 meters farther than the scene visibility). This raises the FPS!!!
14. Keep doing the clip distances for all objects in your scene...(if you have objects in a house/hut the clip distances can be less - like 15 meters instead of 60)
15. place VC player entities and assign scripts as mentioned by this method...
---Hit home key, scroll down to player 000 and select it...then open up your editor panel and click the properties tab...this is where you assign the script to each of the players...then hit home key again and select player 001....do the same as you did before for the rest of the AI player entities...Do not give the same script to 2 seperate AI players....if you do this the game will load, but when you join the game it will crash to desktop...
16. F8-F9 run around and check for floating trees, rocks, logs, etc...then F8...fix those...then F8-F9, save scene...
17. go to your Vietcong-->levels-->(mapname)-->backup--> delete all the backup .sco files in there from all the F8&F9's you did...and also delete the pt2_save_backup.sco's in the folder there as well...
18. Go back to Editor...Create joining screen which players will see after the game loads, go to the place where you want everyone to see on the join screen,...press and press F8-F9-F8, save scene.
19. Go to Editor-->Multiplayer game editor--> enter game name, game types (New), Gametype Coop, Game description (your description), Gametype US descrition (your description), max players = the amount of USCoop recovery points you put in the map, script type drop down : Custom -->Coop.c, Set the End Conditions for min 60 max 300 default 60, Click OK...
20. Now select File-->finalize MP Mission...
21. Start Vietcong game, create a server, check to make sure VC spawn in the game. Join the game and shoot at the vc.
22. Beta test this map with several friends, fix anything needing fixed, re-finalize using steps 16-19,...beta test again...and again until your happy...
23. Upload to a website for everyone to download....
I hope this helped you,...it took a while to type...
