Alot of the new members don't want to lead because they feel that they do not know what to do so I decided I'd put down some of my ideas on how to lead. Feel free to add your own idea, and don't be afraid to go against me or anyone else. I want this to be a good discussion on how to lead so the newer members can find a style they like.
My ideas:
1. Keep the team under control at all times. If someone strays, imediatly call them back.
2. Assign a point man and make sure everyone stays behind him. I notice people jump point alot. You can assign people posistions in line to keep them together. Medics and enginners are usually placed in the rear for safety. Assign someone to take over when you die if you want.
3. People all have their own way of giving orders. Some are pretty laid back like myself, others control the teams every action. I prefer to give a basic order, like "Move along the right edge slowly, fire at will." I let the team adapt on their own to any situation that may come up. As long as they stay together and cover each other, the team works perfectly. Others like to tell you right where you need to go, like "hold that log for 2 min then pull back to the secondary posistion!" You keep more control over the team, but they have no way of really adapting to the situation at hand if the order is really strict. If you are going to give complicated orders, make sure you leave enough flexibility for the others to survive. No plan lasts the first second of battle.
4. Don't keep changing your orders. It confuses the people under you. I saw a guy lead once and this was all you saw: "Move to the log" "no" "go to the hill on the left" "no, go right" "wait, go back to the log" When you give an order, stick with it. Doing that only confuses and distracts everyone else. They should be killing vc, not reading orders. Also, keep the orders simple. If your spending more time reading orders then fighting (which I have seen happen), people get impatient, bored, and are not having fun.
5. Tell people at the start if you want them to call out VC when they see them and hold fire til they are told or if the vc sees them. I just go with Fire At Will. If you wait to long, the vc will see you or move away. Tell people if you want them to conferm their kills with the +. On #2 you have the VC killed by, but on other servers you don't. Remind people about that.
6. If you are going to split the team up, make it absolutly clear who goes where. Just don't say 3 right and 3 left. Assign people by name. I always see someone who goes with the wrong team. Always assign the second team a good leader and make sure they know their orders.
